Main Theme
Enterprise information systems (EIS) have become increasingly popular over the last 15 years. EIS integrate and support business processes across functional boundaries in a supply chain environment. In recent years, more and more enterprises world-wide have adopted EIS such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) for running their businesses. Information systems such as CAD, CAM, MRPII and CRM were previously used for partial functional integration within a business organization. With global operation, global supply chain, and fierce competition in place, there is a need for suitable EIS such as ERP, E-Business or E-Commerce systems to integrate extended enterprises in a supply chain environment with the objective of achieving efficiency, competency, and competitiveness. As an example, the global economy has forced business enterprises such as Dell and Microsoft to adopt ERP in order to take the advantage of strategic alliances within a global supply chain environment. Today, not only the large companies, but also the medium companies are quickly learning that a highly integrated EIS is more and more a required element of doing business. Businesses all over the world are investing billions of dollars in acquiring and implementing EIS in particular ERP systems. As a result, there is a growing demand for researching EIS to provide insights into challenges, issues, and solutions related to the design, implementation and management of EIS.
There is no doubt that the topic of EIS is new, popular and having important long-term strategic impact on global business and world economy. Due to the importance of the subject, there is a significant amount of ongoing research in the area. To respond the market needs from both academic researchers and practitioners for communicating and publishing their research outcomes, and contribute to the progress in the state-of-knowledge and state-of-the-art in EIS, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics will publish a special section dedicated to the topic of “Advances in Enterprise Information Systems”. The purpose of this special section is to provide researchers and practitioners an opportunity to share the most recent advances in the area of enterprise information systems in a global supply chain environment. The special section is interested in topics related to all aspects of enterprise information systems.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Enterprise information systems
Enterprise architectures
Enterprise modeling
Enterprise computing concepts
Realization technologies for enterprise computing, and applications
Manuscript preparation and submission: Follow the guidelines in “Information for Authors” in the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics
http://www.ewh.ieee.org/soc/ies/tii/
Submit using Manuscript Central only
http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tii
Paper submission deadline: August 31, 2006
Expected publication date: August 2007
Note: The recommended papers for the section are subject to final approval by the Editor in Chief and Editor at Large for special sections. Some papers may be published outside the special section, at their discretion.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Information Systems Frontiers
Special Issue on Advances in Enterprise Information Systems
Information Systems Frontiers is a high-ranking research journal in the area of management information systems. Information Systems Frontiers will publish a special issue dedicated to the topic of “Advances in Enterprise Information Systems” in 2007.
Previously information systems such as CAD, CAM, MRPII and CRM were widely used for partial functional integration within a business organization. With global operation, global supply chain, and fierce competition in place, there is a need for suitable EIS such as ERP, E-Business or E-Commerce systems to integrate extended enterprises in a supply chain environment with the objective of achieving efficiency, competency, and competitiveness. The purpose of this special issue is to provide researchers and practitioners an opportunity to share the most recent advances in the area of enterprise information systems in a global supply chain environment. The special issue is interested in those topics related to all aspects of enterprise information systems. Topics of interest include but are not limited to Enterprise information systems, Enterprise architectures, Enterprise modeling, Enterprise computing concepts, Realization technologies for enterprise computing, and applications. Related topics are also listed at http://www.confenis.org/?q=cfp.
The purpose of the Special Issue is to report on the state-of-the-art of, and emerging trends in, research and practice in enterprise information systems. Therefore, we would welcome original contributions on significant research findings, reflecting advanced technological research and applications in the field, and state-of-the-art survey papers and reviews on future directions of enterprise information systems. Each paper will be thoroughly reviewed by at least two qualified expert reviewers. The Special Issue will be edited by Dr. Li Xu (Old Dominion University, USA), Dr. A. Tjoa (Vienna University of Technology, Austria), and Dr. Juhnyoung Lee (IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, USA).
In addition to the regular submission, the Special Issue welcomes the contributions from the related conferences including The IFIP International Conference on Research and Practical Issues of Enterprise Information Systems and 2006 IEEE SMC International Conference Special Session on Enterprise Information Systems. The best papers in the area of enterprise information systems accepted and presented at the conferences will be considered for publishing in this special issue.
Information Systems Frontiers is a high-ranking research journal. The journal is ranked as 18 in the field of information systems (see http://63.151.43.10/csaunders/rankings.htm). The journal is abstracted or indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded, Current Contents/Engineering and other major sources. Further information regarding the journal can be found on the ISF web site at http://www.springer.com or http://www.som.buffalo.edu/isinterface/ISFrontiers/ .
The deadline of submission is October 15, 2006. Regular submissions should be made through email as WORD or PDF documents to the Special Issue’s editorial office at,
